- About This Product
DescriptionAdding a Bilstein Steering Damper to your 4WD '03-'07 Dodge Ram will help dampen steering vibrations and restore steering control.
The steering damper is basically a hydraulic shock absorber for the steering and damps out undesirable movement of the steering wheel due to road imperfections.
To check to see if the steering damper in your Dodge Ram has lost its effectiveness, remove one end of it from the suspension and push on it. If you first get resistance, then less resistance, and then the resistance returns, it's time for a new part. The steering damper typically operates in a small range of motion and it is the center area of the damper that wears out.
NOTE: This steering damper will fit some early '08 Dodge Ram trucks. Check the mounting points on your truck to the damper in the photo before ordering this product.
NOTE: If your truck has had the Mopar steering upgrade performed, you will need the '08-'13 steering damper.

Installed the steering damper on my 05 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 Cummins. It was in the shop having the motor rebuilt at 238K miles. Decided to replace the damper since the factory original was still on the truck and it was real easy with the motor out. I have the same brand of shocks on my truck and they serve their purpose. I have just started driving my truck, 650 miles now on new engine. I do not notice any difference with the steering, so I can't say good or bad. The only thing I don't like about the damper is the rubber boot. It does not contract in a uniform manner when the wheels are straight or turned to the left. It scrunches up in several different directions. If I knew it would not cause premature damage to the damper, I would cut it off. The factory original did not have one, just saying. I don't often look under my truck, so out of sight, out of mind.
