Description

Adding a Bilstein 5100 Steering Damper to your 4WD '08-'13 Dodge Ram will help dampen steering vibrations and restore steering control.

The steering damper is basically a hydraulic shock absorber for the steering and damps out undesirable movement of the steering wheel due to road imperfections.

To check to see if the steering damper in your Dodge Ram has lost its effectiveness, remove one end of it from the suspension and push on it. If you first get resistance, then less resistance, and then the resistance returns, it's time for a new part. The steering damper typically operates in a small range of motion and it is the center area of the damper that wears out.

NOTE: Some early '08 Dodge Ram trucks use the steering damper for '03-'07 trucks (#BIL-24-164870). Check the mounting points on your truck to the damper in the photo before ordering this product.

NOTE: If your truck has had the Mopar steering upgrade performed, you will need the '08-'13 steering damper.

Great replacement damper. I am using this on my '12 3500 with 5" lift and 37".

wont center
Feb 5, 2021  |  By David Brune
does it dampen, yes will it center no Constantly turns the wheels to the left. Even stopped it will creep the wheels to the left about 10 deg.
Owner Response:This would not be considered normal operation. This damper has been offered for our application for many years and has been installed on many of our own trucks without issue. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.
