Description

These steering shafts are replacements for the underhood intermediate shaft.

Full-size '79-'93 Dodge Pickups have a type of steering coupler that can show signs of wear in as little as 4500 miles, depending on how the truck is used. This wear, which causes play in the truck's steering, is even more noticeable if your truck is used for plowing, towing or if oversized tires have been installed. Replacing the worn steering shaft with another OEM shaft only gives you a temporary fix.

Borgeson has replacement steering shaft assemblies with precision needle bearing u-joints available for '79 to '09 full-size Dodge trucks.

NOTE: Full size Dodge with 2 U-joints. Steering column must have removable rag joint. If it is not removable, use part #000940 steering shaft.

The improvement in steering control is amazing. The worn stock coupler produced 2"-3" of steering wheel play; the new Borgeson shaft reduced that play to less than an inch. The original steering box is three decades old, so that would need replacement to reduce the play further if I cared enough to go to that much trouble. My only complaint is the non-Mopar instructions. No mention of how to remove the upper roll pin and splined rag mount/flange WITHOUT hammering or jolting the delicate upper steering column. I ended up removing the steering column and putting the rag mount flange in a bench vise and carefully tapping out the roll pin. The flange was removed with a steering wheel puller. Also, I did not reuse the rather large steering column spring (NVH?) since it would tend to push off the upper Borgeson U-joint flange. Both upper and lower flange securing bolts fit nicely into the Chrysler roll pin flat and recess.
