Part No. 04897406AA - Mopar Throttle Cable for 1994-1996 Early 12-Valve Dodge/Cummins

Q: I attempted to install the throttle cable and it doesn't fit. Hole in bracket is 22mm. Diameter of cable insert is 24mm. I even tried lube on the mounting grommet and still does not fit. Can you provide some assistance?

A: The same cable is used on all 1994-1998 Ram 12 valve Cummins engines regardless of the 2-part numbers that are offered. The only difference in the kits is the diameter of the pivot hole on the bracket that comes with the kits. At the moment we do not have a throttle assembly bracket to compare against, but we can tell you that all of the 12 Valve throttle cables we have in our warehouse all have the larger 24mm size that you are finding.

The 2mm difference you are referring to is very small equating to 0.0787 inches or 5/64th of an inch. The mounting grommet needs to have a tight fit and this 2mm difference would be expected. We would suggest using a large channel lock wrench to push the grommet into the mounting hole. Attached is a photo showing how to use channel locks to install the throttle cable retaining grommets. (A larger pair of channel locks will work best for leverage.)
